Republican incumbent state Sen. George Amedore, of Rotterdam, will have to defend the 46th Senate seat he has held for four years from Democratic challenger Pat Strong, of Kingston, on Election Day, Nov. 6.

Amedore represents both Ravena and Coeymans.

The 46th Senate District encompasses a portion of Albany County, all of Montgomery and Greene counties, and portions of Schenectady and Ulster counties.

George Amedore Jr.

Age: 49

Amedore is a second generation owner of his family business, Amedore Homes, and has served as state senator for the 46th Senate District since he was elected in 2014. Amedore previously served in the state Assembly from 2007 to 2012, serving Mongtomery and Schenectady counties.

Amedore was born and raised in Schenectady County, and now resides in Rotterdam with his wife of 28 years, Joelle. They have raised three children — George, 27, Anthony, 25, and Bria, 22.

“Since being elected to the senate, I have built a record that I am proud of,” Amedore said. “Whether it is delivering record school aid funding to our schools, restoring rebate checks for property tax relief, my work on the heroin epidemic, or bringing critically needed infrastructure investment to our communities, my priority continues to be to advance policies that will build stronger, healthier communities and to deliver our fair share of resources – right here in Greene County and throughout the 46th Senate District. I am running for re-election to continue to be a strong voice in the Senate.”

Pat Strong

Age: 63

Strong is a small business owner in Kingston, helping people save money by saving energy. In 2006 Strong started her own consulting business, providing technical assistance and energy education.

Education: Strong earned her bachelor’s degree at Northeastern University and grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut.

She is married to Lester Strong and they raised five children: Leela, 38, mother of their grandson, Langston, Kelli, 36, Alex, 32, Rachel, 30, and Neil, 28.

“I’m running for the New York State Senate because I’ve been a small business owner, creating jobs for more than two dozen people since 2006, and I believe that will be an important perspective to bring to the Senate, to help keep the Senate grounded in reality,” Strong said. “I’ve become concerned at the direction things are heading in, in Washington and Albany, and I’d like to be part of the solution to the many roadblocks New Yorkers have faced. We need to safeguard women’s reproductive rights; fight climate change as though our grandkids’ lives depend on it, and clean up Albany with sensible ethics reform. We need to create good paying jobs in Upstate New York so our children can work here and raise families here.”
