BOYS BASKETBALL: Titans edge Mustangs in OT for first win

CRARYVILLE — Taconic Hills outscored Cairo-Durham 4-2 in overtime to earn a 42-40 victory over the Mustangs in Friday’s Patroon Conference boys basketball game.

Taconic Hills led 9-5 after one quarter, but Cairo-Durham surged to a 22-17 edge by halftime. The Mustangs were up 31-26 after three quarters, but the Titans used a 12-7 run over the final eight minutes to even the score 38-38 at the end of regulation.

In overtime, Joel Preusser and Kobe Van Alstyne each hit a bucket to give the Titans their first victory of the season.

Kyle Delamater led the Titans with 17 points. Van Alstyne added nine.

Jonathan Doble’s nine points topped the Mustangs. Ethan Phillips and Alek Wagor each had eight.

CAIRO-DURHAM (40): Handel 3-1-7, Phillips 3-0-8, Rivers 1-0-3, Doble 4-0-9, Wagor 2-4-8, Budz 2-0-5. Totals 15-5-40.

Catskill 78, Rensselaer 56

RENSSELAER — Lavon Fernandez’s 21 points led a quartet of double-digit scorers for Catskill in a 78-56 Patroon Conference boys basketball victory over Rensselaer on Friday.

DeVon Haye followed Fernandez with 16 points for the Cats (7-0, 8-1). Levititcus Johnson had 13 and Melik Christian 12.

Samir Lockhart led the Rams with 21 points. Ramell Johnson chipped in with 17.

CATSKILL (78): Christian 6-0-12, Johnson 5-3-13, Gibbs 2-2-6, Lyles 1-0-2, Fernandez 7-6-21, Lowe-Scott 1-0-2, Scott 3-0-6, Haye 6-3-16. Totals 29-14-78.

Coxxsackie-Athens 60, Chatham 49

COXSACKIE — Coxsackie-Athens built up a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter and went on to hand Chatham a 60-49 setback in Friday’s Patroon Conference boys basketball game.

The Indians were up 24-13 after one quarter, 36-24 at halftime and 46-35 by the end of the third stanza.

Kane Schrader was C-A’s top scorer with 18 points. Josh Kiefer added 12.

Jayshawn Williams topped Chatham with 18 points. Zach Gregg had 10.

CHATHAM (49): Baccaro 1-0-2, Gregg 3-2-10, T. Jeralds 3-2-8, Kastner 2-1-5, Talbott 1-0-3, Thorsen 0-1-1, Van Tassel 1-0-2, Williams 8-1-18. Totals 19-7-49.

HALFMOON — Michael Talavera dropped 28 points as Waterford knocked off Germantown, 74-47, in the opening rund of the Waterford Tournament on Thurday.

The Fordians’ built quarterly leads of 16-13, 35-18 and 59-35.

T.J. Kelley followed Talavera with 13 points for Waterford. Jake Houle and Gavin Bodah each had 10.

Jace Anderson was Germantown’s top point producer with 13 points. Bryan Batrick had 12.

GERMANTOWN (47): Anderson 5-3-13, Bathrick 4-4-12, Eaton 1-2-5, MAyr 2-2-6, Mckinney 3-2-8, Sanzo 1-1-3. Totals 16-14-47.

Bishop Maginn 66, Germantown 34

HALFMOON — Ja’Nyve Smith scored 22 points to spark Bishop Maginn to a 66-34 victory over Germantown in the consolation game of the Waterford Tournament on Friday.

Massiah Galloway had 15 points ad Qua’Nire Green added 12 for the Griffins, who held quarterly leads of 22-6, 32-21 and 51-25.

Robbie Eaton led the Clippers with 11 points. Bryan Bathrick had eight.

BISHOP MAGINN (66): Galloway 7-1-15, Green 6-0-12, Joseph 1-0-2, Martinez 3-1-8, Milikens 1-1-3, Smith 9-3-22, Williams 2-0-4. Totals 29-6-66.

CHATHAM — Brett Richards poured in 21 points to spark Ichabod Crane to a 70-42 non-league boys basketball victory over Chatham on Saturday.

Zach Kennedy had 13 points for the Riders. Asah Mulica chipped in with 11.

Tobias Jeralds’ 10 points paced Chatham. Matt Thorsen and Zach Gregg both had nine.
