Clarke leads Hudson 11-12s over Chatham
HUDSON — Kristyian Clarke scored from third base on a throwing error with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Hudson a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Chatham in Thursday’s District 15 ALl-Stars 11-12-year-old Tournament game.
Hudson moves on in the winners bracket to play at Saugerties on Monday at 5:45 p.m. Saugerties advanced with a 4-3 victory over Northern Columbia on Thursday.
Chatham drops into the losers bracket and will play at Catskill in an elimination game today at 5:45 p.m.
Clarke was one of the heroes in Hudson’s victory, homering over the centerfield fence to lead off the bottom of the fourth to tie the score 2-2 and then starting the game-winning rally with a single to lead off the bottom of the sixth. After taking second on a passed ball, Clarke went to third on a wild pitch, drawing a throw from the Chatham catcher. The throw sailed into left field and Clarke raced home with the decisive run.
Chatham scored its first run in the top of the second when L.J. Morse singled, stole second, went to third on A.J. Weaver’s ground out and scored on a wild pitch.
Chatham padded its lead in the third when Logan Smalley reached second on an infield error and came around to score on Tate Van Alstyne’s base hit.
Hudson plated its first run in the bottom of the third when Jayden Morrison singled, went to second on a wild pitch, took third on Ashton Hotaling’s ground out and scored on Matty Munro’s single.
Clarke homered and singled to lead Hudson’s five-hit attack. Morrison added two singles and Munro had a single and an RBI.
Lenny Sitzer collected two singles for Chatham. Van Alstyne had a single and an RBI and Morse, Jacob Taylor, Alex Chudy and Ant O’Dell each had a single.
Brian Curran turned in a gem on the mound for Hudson, striking out six, walking just one and allowing two runs on seven hits in a route-going performance.
Van Alstyne pitched the first four frames for Chatham, striking out nine, walking one and giving up two runs on four hits. Dayton Harvey worked the last 1 1/3 innings, striking out one and surrendering one run on one hit.
