Egan leads Hudson 8-10s past Catskill

CATSKILL — Sean Egan went 3 for 3 with five RBI to power Hudson past Catskill, 12-2, in a District 15 All-Star 8-10-year-old baseball tournament elimination game at Elliot Park on Wednesday.

The game was stopped in the fifth inning because of rain.

Hudson advances in the losers bracket and will play Northern Columbia in an elimination game on Friday at 5:45 p.m. in Hudson.

Hudson staked starting pitcher Preston Porreca to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. With two outs, Gannon Logue walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored when Trent Keller reached on an infield error. Porreca followed with a single and Eli Conte walked to load the bases. Tyler Sheldon and Egan also walked, forcing in two more runs.

Catskill got two back in the bottom of the first as James Story legged out an infield single, took second on an error, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Leo Gottsman’s single. Gottsman moved up two bases on wild pitches and scored on an infield single off the bat of James Paczkowski.

Hudson added four more runs in the second. Egan had a two-run double, Sheldon walked with the bases loaded to force in another run and Logue scored from third on a wild pitch.

Keller had an RBI single in the third to make it 8-2, before Hudson wrapped up its scoring with four in the fifth on a two-run single by Egan an infield grounder by Porreca and a steal of home by Keller.

Egan finished with a double and two singles to highlight Hudson’s six-hit attack. Porreca, Keller and Ryan Conte all singled.

Austin June doubled for Catskill. Cassen Sickler, Story, Gottsman and Paczkowski each had a single.

Porreca struck out five and walked three while allowing two runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings of work. Logue struck out the only batter he faced.

June, Kayden Dolan and Collin Shook combined to strike out six, walk 14 and allow 12 runs on six hits for Catskill.
