Girls’ hoops defeats Albany Academy

RAVENA-COEYMANS-SELKIRK — The RCS girls’ basketball team defeated Albany Academy for Girls by a score of 53 to 41 on RCS’s home court Dec. 6.

For RCS this was the first of two match-ups against Albany Academy this season; the next game between the two teams is scheduled for Feb. 1.

The Indians scored big in the first quarter, with a total 22 points, following that up with another 6 points in the second, 14 in the third and 11 in the fourth stanza, for a total of 53 points on the game.

Albany Academy started out slow, with 6 points in the first quarter. Their biggest quarter came in the second when they scored 16, but slowed down to 7 in the third and 12 in the fourth, for a total of 41.

The top scorer of the game for RCS was Sara Hotaling, who scored a total 13 points on the day. Samantha Baker was the second highest scorer with 12, with Lauren Sanderson adding 10 to the team’s tally. Grace Engel scored 7, Kayla Rexford 5, and 2 points apiece for Hannah VanDerzee, Zoee McNeilly and Caitlyn DeLuca.

The Indians at press time had a 3-1 record on the season, winning both of their home games, and winning one and losing one on the road.

The team was expected to play Cobleskill-Richmondville at home Dec. 11, but results were too late for press time.

The next game will be Friday, Dec. 14 in an away game against Watervliet.
