GIRLS BASKETBALL: MH wins Holiday Hoopfest title

CASTLETON — Maple Hill raced out to a 14-point lead in the first quarter and went on to defeat Hoosic Valley, 58-37, to win the Holiday Hoopfest at The Hill championship on Sunday afternoon.

The Wildcats led 30-17 at halftime and 42-31 after three quarters.

Sophia Chevrier led Maple Hill with 20 points. Natasha Strock had 14.

Sami Dickinson had 11 points for Hoosic Valley. Emaleigh Peckham contributed nine.

Heatly 45, Greenville 25

BERNE — Jordan Ries and Kierra Hope combined for 41 of Heatly’s 45 points as the Hornets defeated Greenvile, 45-25, in the consaltion game of the B-K-W Christmas Tournament on Saturday.

Ries finished with 21 points and Hope had 20 for the Hornets, who posted quarterly leads of 12-10, 25-15 and 37-19.

Natalie Krasney’s 12 points led Greenville.

Middleburgh 48, Greenville 39

BERNE — Natalie Krasney scored a game-high 24 points, but it wasn’t enough to revent Greenville from falling to Middleburgh, 48-39, in the opening round of the B-K-W Christmas Tournament on Friday.

The game was close in the first half, with Middleburgh up 10-7 after one quarter and Greenville coming back to even the score, 17-17, at halftime. The Knights surged ahead 32-28 after three quarters, then outscored the Spartans 16-11 in the final stanza to lock up the win.

Hallie Gasner topped Middleburgh with 16 points. Morgan Schafroth contributed 13 points.
