Head-on collision leaves two with serious injuries
DELMAR — Police have identified the drivers in a head-on collision between two vehicles on the Delmar bypass, just west of Kenwood Avenue.
Margaret Joslin, 83, of Selkirk, and Ethan Kurlander, 18, of Delmar, both suffered multiple serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to a statement from the Bethlehem Police Department. Both were the sole occupants of their vehicles.
The accident occurred around 1:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, and led to the closure of the bypass for more than an hour.
“Based upon the investigation it has been determined that a 2014 Kia, operated by Margaret Joslin, 83, of Selkirk, was traveling eastbound on the Delmar By-Pass in the westbound lane when it struck a 2015 Kia, operated by Ethan Kurlander, 18, of Delmar,” according to the statement.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no other injuries.
Joslin was extricated from her vehicle. Both she and Kurlander were transported by Delmar-Bethlehem EMS and Albany County Paramedics to Albany Medical Center Hospital, according to police.
Joslin was issued traffic tickets for reckless driving, disobeying a traffic control device and failing to use a designated lane, according to the police statement.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash, according to the initial statement from Bethlehem Police.
The Elsmere and Slingerlands fire departments also assisted at the scene.
