H.S. WRESTLING: Maple Hill’s Svingala remains unbeaten
WARRENSBURG — Maple Hill’s Caleb Svingala remains unbeaten this season after winning all five of his matches at the Warrensburg Duals on Saturday.
Svingala, the state runner-up in Division 2 last year, is now 18-0 and has yet to give up a point in a match this season. His biggest win of the weekend came against Warrensburg as he pinned Dylan Winchell in the first period. Winchell is a two-time state qualifier.
Caleb won the most outstanding wrestler award for the tournament, which is voted upon by the participating coaches.
The Wildcats finished second in the six-team tournament, losing only to Warrensburg. They defeated Hudson Falls, 46-41; Beekmantown, 60-27; Hoosick Falls, 69-12; and Albany Academy, 72-12.
RAVENA TOURNAMENT
Seth Dillworth took first place in the 220-pound weight class to lead Coxsackie-Athens to a fourth place finish at the Jamie Mormile Tournament at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School on Saturday.
The Indians finished with 163.5 points in the 15-team tournament. Arlington was first with 218 points, followed by Tamarac (208.5) and Ravena (194). Catskill was 11th with 51 points and Taconic Hills took 13th with 39.
Dillworth pinned Logan Mead of Monument Mountain in 5:59 to win the 220-pound championship. He decisioned Matt O’Connor of Ravena, 9-4, in the semifinals and began the dayby pinning Justin Lamb of Guilderland in 2:14 in the quarterfinals.
C-A’s Logan Campbell reached the finals in the 113-pound division, but lost an 8-0 major decision to Tom Bishop of Tamarac.
C-A’s Noah Bartels (132), Colin Riley (168) and Colby Lord (182) all claimed third place finishes. Catskill’s Jesse Davies took third in the 145-pound division and Taconic Hills’ was third in the 285-pound division.
Taconic Hills’ Colin Brackett finished fourth in the 106-pound division.
Fifth-place finishers were: Neil Murphy (99), Aidan Scarpinati (113) and Tommy Notabartolo (126) of Coxsackie-Athens and Stephen Forbes (170) of Catskill.
