Luo, Tai win Windham AJGA junior tourney

WINDHAM — Xuan Luo clinched the championship on Thursday, winning the annual American Junior Golf Association Junior All-Stars Series at Windham Country Club.

It is Luo’s first AJGA title.

Luo, of China, gained the lead on Tuesday and never looked back, posting a 11-under-par 205 total in the 54-hole tournament. He nailed down six birdies on Thursday.

Sean-Karl Dobson, of Texas, shot one of the best rounds in the tournament on Thursday with a 6-under 66 to leap into second place with an 8-under 208 total.

China’s XiuZhi Huang finished in third with a 210 while Connor Willett (Massachusetts) and Matthew Yamin (New York, NY) tied for fourth with a 211.

In all, 71 boys competed in the youth tournament. Windham’s Peter Pranzo was the lone local participant, notching a 266 total to place 70th overall.

On the girls’ side, Yoko Tai, of Singapore, won the tournament on the final day with a 71 to close out with a 217 total.

Florida’s Ella Dong (221) took second and Georgia’s Reagan Southerland (224) placed third. Delaware’s Hannah Lydic and Dominican Republic’s Yae Eun Kim tied for fourth with a 225 total.

Twenty-three females competed in the tournament. Originally 24 were in the first round, though one participant withdrew due to illness.

Both Luo and Tai qualify to compete in the Junior All-Star Invitational in the fall.
