HUDSON — From smart humidifiers and hand-painted tiles to non-toxic scents to fill your home – Saturday’s Hudson Home Show featured projects and gadgets to spruce up your household.

About 30 vendors participated in Saturday’s third annual home show at Columbia-Greene Community College, 4400 Route 23, hosted by Columbia-Greene Media. The event ran from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Area homeowners perused the displays of flooring, carpeting, solar panels, windows, wood stoves and more.

Clyde Schrader, manager at Carpet One, which has locations in Hudson and Kingston, said most Twin County customers are looking to update older homes.

“The recession is basically over and people are spending money again,” Schrader said. “It seems like when the market is good, people spend money.”

Currently, the biggest seller in flooring is waterproof, stain-fighting products — like carpet, for homeowners with pets and young children, Schrader said.

Wood flooring has always been popular, he added, but said with waterproof carpet, liquid stains won’t seep onto the padding and the surface below.

Porcelain plank flooring made to look like wood is popular for customers looking to modernize their bathrooms for a high-end look at an affordable price, said Gary Perdue, the marble and tile manage at Herrington’s Marble and Tile Design Center in Hillsdale.

“Because of the age of most of the homes, everyone is doing remodels,” Perdue said. “They are trying keep it to the era of the home, but also make it look modern.”

Mother and daughter Stephanie and Izabelle Jensen, of Hudson, showed customers Pink Zebra’s line of soy-based fragrances. The scents, which feature flavors including amaretto cream and lemon pound cake, come in the form of melted wax for your home or sprinkles that could be stuffed in a gym bag. The scents are nontoxic and food-based, so it’s safe for children and pets in case they are accidently consumed, Stephanie Jensen said.

“You can add some to vacuum bag or pet’s litter box,” Jensen said. “I put them [the wax sprinkles] in sachet baggies and put them in the kids’ soccer bags.”
