Soft Paws: Open house and free pet adoption day
The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA will be hosting an Open House and free pet adoption day 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 26.
CGHS/SPCA is filled with cats, kittens and dogs that are in need of good, permanent homes. All pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested and have a 24PetWatch microchip. All adult pet adoptions include 30 days of pet insurance and all this is free to approved homes!
Radio personality Bill Williams of Oldies 93.5 FM, the Cat 98.5 FM, and WRWD Country 107.3 FM will be on hand for giveaways with the prize wheel. There will be free hot dogs and burgers with our CEO Ron at the grill, and costumes — pet and/or human — are welcome.
To find out how you can take your new pet home on the same day, call 518-828-6044, or have your application pre-approved by visiting our website at cghs.org. CGHS/SPCA is located at 111 Humane Society Road in Claverack.
We also have a “special offering” guaranteed to make for a Hoppy Halloween — rabbits! We currently have a supply of beautiful bunnies ready to be placed into loving homes. Better yet, a number of them are JUMBO bunnies, designed to give their new families maximum strokability. These are, at the very least, a must-see. However, due to their unusually large body structure, they’re bound to go like hot cakes, so if you want one, get down here quickly and “leap” on this opportunity! To wet your whistle, here’s some bunny trivia:
n Like deer, male rabbits are “bucks” and females are “does.” And I’m not “kitten,” aby cats and bunnies are called by the same term!
n “Breeding like rabbits” is no joke — a female’s reproductive system is not cyclical. Their ovulation is triggered by mating, meaning a really fast turnaround between litters if they’re allowed and with up to 12 kits per package, that’s a whole lotta bunnies!
n Rabbits can see almost a full 360 degrees without turning their heads, aside from a blind spot right in front of their noses. Can’t sneak up on a bunny!
n Those teeth never stop growing, so they have to have some gritty, chewy stuff in their diets to keep those choppers worn down!
n Those magnificent ears can’t pick up TV signals, but they can hear great, up to two miles in some cases. They double as built-in air conditioners, keeping bunnies from overheating!
Hope to see many of you on the 26th!
