High Five! How Reading Early With Our Child Builds Reading Confidence and Creates Happy Readers
HUDSON — Hudson Area Library and The Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood’s High Five! program at the library Saturday, May 5, 11am – 1pm features a trip to the Hudson Children’s Book Festival with High Five! Volunteer, Robin Weber and program facilitator Kathy Mabb. Transportation is available to the library to meet up and get lunches and then families can take the festival bus to the book festival. Robin and Kathy will be reading to the children during story hour at the library and discussing how reading early on with our child builds reading confidence and creates happy readers.
Regular participants of the program will receive $25 gift certificates to spend at the festival. Transportation to the library is available and there is a bus that stops at the corner of the library that will take families to the festival.
Volunteer Robin Weber has been working in the High Five! Program since its inception, working with children during the parent discussions. She is a valuable member of the High Five! Team and believes that parents reading to their child on a regular basis and being involved in their school life will help children to be successful.
High Five! facilitator Kathy Mabb is a dedicated educator with over thirty years of teaching experience in Columbia County including as child care director and parent educator at Questar’s Teen Parent Education Program. Working with children and their parents has always been her passion, and her belief that communities should nurture their youngest members and their families, makes her a good fit for High Five!
The Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood is thrilled to be partnering with the Hudson Area Library for the High Five! early literacy program. The GHPN works to support children and families in the Hudson City School District from birth through college to career. Promise Neighborhood, established in 2011 through a Planning Grant from the US Department of Education, has built a strong foundation of partnerships and programs supporting families in the Hudson community and beyond.
