Greene County sending two teams to World Championships
A year after Hudson sent a team to the APA 8-Ball World Championships in Las Vegas, this year it’s Greene County’s turn to send, not one, but two squads to Las Vegas.
“It’s awesome and I’m thrilled to death that they qualified,” said KrisAnne Lynch, the Greene County Local APA representative.
This is the first time that Greene County has had two teams qualify. In the past, they’ve had teams reach the Regional Championships and advance as far as the third round, but no team has won a Regional Championship to advance to Las Vegas and compete in the 8-Ball World Championships.
Although this is the first year Greene County is sending teams to the World Championships, they have sent singles players to compete in the tournament, with Lynch having competed in the Championship representing Greene County.
To get to Las Vegas, the teams have to compete in a league, and for the Greene County teams, it’s the Monday Night League which is a 16-week schedule played at the Pot of Gold in Cairo. From there, they have to qualify for playoffs and win the playoffs in Greene County and, if they win, they advance to Connecticut to compete in the Regional Championships.
If teams win the Regoinal Championship, they advance to the 8-Ball World Championships in Las Vegas.
The two eight-person teams begin competition on Aug. 13 with the grand prize of $25,000 on the line.
