Schultz optioned to Triple-A Durham

TAMPA BAY — With Chaz Roe coming off the DL, Maple Hill graduate and Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jaime Schultz has been optioned to Triple-A Durham.

Schultz was called up to the big leagues in early July when Roe suffered a knee injury. The former Wildcat appeared in 12 games for Tampa Bay, tossing 19 2/3 innings.

In his time with the club, Schultz earned a win, struck out 23 batters, allowed 12 walks, held opposing hitters to a 1.12 batting average and holds a 4.58 ERA.

Schultz will play for the Durham Bulls until he gets the call up once again, which most insiders expect to be in September when rosters expand.

With the Bulls, Schultz is 2-1 this season with one save in 27 games and 28 2/3 innings pitched. He has 47 strikeouts on the lower level.

For his career, Schultz has 544 minor league strikeouts in 418 innings.
