Residents warned of ‘rash of thefts’ from unlocked vehicles in Delmar
BETHLEHEM — The Bethlehem Police Department is warning residents of a rash of thefts from unlocked vehicles in Delmar.
The department is investigating “a series” of cases where items were stolen from vehicles that were not locked. Reportedly more than a dozen vehicles were targeted, police said.
No arrests have yet been made.
The incidents occurred overnight from Wednesday, Dec. 5, to the early morning hours of Thursday, Dec. 6, when someone allegedly entered multiple vehicles, taking items such as change, electronics and personal property, according to a statement from the Bethlehem Police.
“The majority of the thefts took place in the Old Delmar neighborhood,” according to the statement. “At this time, police are investigating 15 reports of theft or of vehicles that appeared to have been ransacked.”
Bethlehem Police provided tips to avoid becoming a victim of this type of crime:
• Ensure all vehicles parked outside overnight are locked at all times.
• Leave valuables out of view in the vehicle.
• Leave exterior lightning, or motion lights, on overnight.
Police ask that anyone with home video surveillance that may reveal a suspect is asked to come forward so police can review the video.
