Police: 3 charged after hiding heroin, gun in child’s toy
HUDSON — Three men were arrested after they tried to hide more than $5,000 worth of heroin and a gun in a pink child’s karaoke machine, police said Saturday.
Dorian Carr, 37, of Hudson; Austin Carr, 24, and Maleek Singleton, 25, both of Brooklyn, were charged Friday with third-degree possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony; second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony; and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class E felony, according to a statement from Hudson police. Dorian and Austin Carr are cousins.
The three men were taken into custody after a traffic stop on Columbia Street at about 8:16 p.m. Friday, according to police. Dorian Carr was driving a 2018 Ford Mustang convertible with Austin and Singleton as passengers.
Hudson police and Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies searched the vehicle and found 350 individually wrapped doses of heroin and a loaded .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver inside a child’s toy karaoke machine, police said. The revolver was stolen from an owner in Lexington County, South Carolina, according to detectives on the case.
“[There are] fewer drugs on the street that dealers can use to torture and exploit addicts,” Police Chief L. Edward Moore said of the investigation.
Two of the men arrested have prior felony convictions. Singleton was convicted May 6, 2014, of third-degree robbery, a class D felony; in Westchester County Court, according to police. Dorian was convicted of Driving While Intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor; in Hudson City Court on April 18, 2018, and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; in Warren County Court on Oct. 31, 2002, police said.
Friday’s short-term drug investigation involved Hudson police, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the Capital District Drug Enforcement Task Force, Assistant U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, Moore said.
“Once again, information sharing and the combined efforts of HPD, Columbia County deputies and the DEA [Capital District Drug Enforcement Task Force] made this happen,” Moore said.
This investigation is continuing, police said. The three men are in Columbia County Jail awaiting arraignment.
Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substances carries a penalty between one year in jail to nine years in state prison.
