20th annual Spring Garden Day hosts a variety of classes
STONE RIDGE — Join fellow gardeners at the hottest ticket in town 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. April 13, the 20th Annual Garden Day, presented by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County (CCEUC) Master Gardeners. The day begins with a keynote presentation about the life and legacy of Beatrix Farrand, an influential garden designer from the 20th century. Presenters, Anne Cleves Symmes and Karen Smythe, will share the story of restoring Ferrand’s garden at Bellefield Estate in Hyde Park.
The program continues with 16 fun and inspiring classes about gardening in all types of settings, from a dish garden of succulents to a soggy backyard. Looking to try something new? Sign up for “How to Start a Perennial Garden from Scratch” or “Beginner’s Vegetable Garden”. Want to dig a little deeper? Try “Garlic, Onions, & Shallots for the Home Garden”, “Organic Heirloom Gardening” or “Broadleaf and Needle Evergreens.” Working to rejuvenate a tired yard? “Hardscaping: The Foundation of Good Garden Design” or “Achieving Color in the Garden all Season” can help with that. Nip problems in the bud with “Garden Rehab” and “10 Best Things I Have Learned about Gardening” or prepare for bigger changes with “Embrace Your Invasive Plants” and “Adapt your Garden for Climate Change.” New this year - demonstration classes! Learn how to make “Natural Dyes from Plants”, “Hypertufa Planter” or a “Garden Under Glass: Terrarium.”

The cost for the day is $50 in advance; $55 at the door. A catered lunch is available and must be purchased upon registering, or you can bring your own.
