LOCAL ROUNDUP: Taconic Hills swimmers split with MAU

CRARYVILLE — The Taconic Hills girls and boys swim teams split a recent meet with Mount Anthony Union.

The girls won, 98-68, while the boys dropped a 71-60 decision.

Lauren Madsen and Emma Avenia each won two individual events and were a part of two winning realy teams. Madsen took the 200-yard intermediate (2:45.75) and 100 butterfly (1:20.57), while Avenia won the 200-yard freestyle (2:16.27) and the 500 freestyle (6:09.13).

Madsen and Avenia teamed up with Lily Russo and Clare Howard to win the 200 free relay (1:58.31) and joined with Howard and Daisy Plaza to claim the 400 free relay.

Josh Sena eanred two first-place finishes for the Titans in the boys meet, taking the 200 freestyle in 2:35.72 and the 500 freestyle in 7:30.46.

Logan Fink won the 100 backstroke for the Titans in 1:28.64.

Taconic Hills’ 200 freestyle relay team of Sena, Aaron Bonsi, Chris Russell and Dylan Foutch finished first in 1:55.55.

“This was a tough loss, but it was not for lack of effort,” Taconic Hills coach Tom Russo said. “Josh Sena led the effort with three first places, while seventh grader Logan Fink won in the 100 backstroke. All swimmers scored at least 6 points each for the Titans Mt. Anthony was up by as many as 12 points, but we were able to cut the lead down to 3 points going into the last relay. That gave us a chance to win the meet if we won the last relay.

“The team gave it everything they had, but we came up short this time. You hate to lose, but I am proud of our team’s effort. The only reason we even had a chance at the end was because we won all of the close races. Their team was bigger than ours. As a result, they were able to put more entries in events than we were able to. That was ultimately the difference in the meet.”

Catskill 60, Berlin 24

BERLIN — Catskill remained unbeaten in Patroon Conference wrestling with a 60-24 triumph over Berlin on Tuesday.

The Cats posted nine victories by pin in rasing their record to 6-0.

COTICH TOURNAMENT

CATSKILL — Catskill had the high team score with a 2,815 at Tuesday’s George Cotich Memorial Bowling Tournament at Hoe Bowl Lanes.

Maple Hill was second in the team scores with a total pinfall of 2,598 and Chatham took third with 2,581.

Maple Hill’s Kevin Ackerman had the high individual game with a 220. Damien Calvo of Coxsackie-Athens was second with a 214.

Michael Jubie of Catskill had the high series with a 665. Andrew Duso of Chatham finished with a 641.

“It was a good event,” Catskill bowling coach Len Reyngoudt said. “Everybody enjoyed themselves. We’d like to thank Catskill Lanes for hosting the tournament.”
