Hudson Police seek suspect in Green Street Deli robbery

HUDSON — The Hudson Police Department is seeking information about a robbery that occurred at the Green Street Deli at 67 Green St. in the city Tuesday morning. The robbery occurred around 6:15 a.m., and was reported by an employee at 7 a.m., Detective Sgt. Jason Finn said Wednesday.

The suspect jumped over the counter and broke into the cash register, Hudson Police Chief L. Edward Moore said Tuesday. An employee ran and hid in the store cooler for his safety, Moore said.

“It was a couple hundred dollars,” deli owner Danny Patel said of the money taken from the register.

“[He] does not appear to be armed,” Finn said Wednesday.

More than 10 security cameras were positioned inside the deli during the robbery and police are using the footage to aid in their investigation.

The employee told police that the man damaged property and ran out of the store in an unknown direction, Moore said.

The employee who was present during the robbery was not hurt, Patel said. No injuries were reported.

Police did not disclose how much money was taken or the value of the damage to the deli, but Patel estimated that between $600 and $700 in other damages were done, including a broken cash drawer.

Patel said the last time the deli was robbed was six years ago.

The deli was closed immediately following the robbery, but reopened Tuesday. Its regular hours are 4:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, opening at 5 a.m. on weekends.

The suspect is described as a white male around six feet tall, 25 to 30 years old, Moore said. He was wearing white sneakers, gray sweatpants, a black jacket with a red sweatshirt underneath and was carrying a backpack, Finn said Wednesday.
