COXSACKIE — A water main break in the village of Coxsackie on Tuesday morning left some areas without water and prompted an early dismissal at Coxsackie-Athens central schools, officials said.

The break was reported around 10:30 a.m. on Plank Road, in the area of Greene Correctional Facility, village officials said.

While the Coxsackie Village Water Department and Department of Public Works went to work on fixing the break, the village issued a code red alert for areas affected by the break.

Residents on Sunset Boulevard and Plank Road were notified that their water may be turned off until further notice, while repairs are made.

Coxsackie-Athens schools, on Sunset Boulevard, notified parents that schools would be dismissing for the day at 12:30 p.m., officials said. Sports practices and games would go on as scheduled.

The village experiences several water main breaks a year, according to Mayor Mark Evans.

“We have a good team that is able to isolate and repair the problem very quickly,” Evans said.

Tuesday’s water main break on Plank Road was repaired a little after 1 p.m., with a code red notice, saying all residents should have their water service again, going out at 2:15 p.m.
