Adult Learning Program announces March programming

Open Pinochle Group 1:30-4 p.m. March 2 and March 16 in the Faculty/Staff Lounge with Madeline Dickerson. Whether you’re a novice, an expert or fall somewhere in between, the Open Pinochle Group welcomes you. This group, which meets the first and third Mondays, provides a wonderful opportunity to learn, share and meet new people with a similar interest.
Bridge Group with Bridge Lessons 1-4 p.m. March 3, March 10, March 17, March 24 and March 31 in the Faculty/Staff Lounge with Nancy Feller. The bridge group generally meets every week and is open to all members of ALI. If you are interested in learning to play or refresh skills, a class is offered. Please call Barbara in the ALI Office to register for a beginner or refresher class.
Mahjongg 1:30-4 p.m. March 4, March 11 and March 25 in the Faculty/Staff Lounge with Barbara Troy. Mahjongg is a fascinating rummy-like game played with tiles rather than cards and the group meets three Wednesdays each month. If you are an experienced player, just call the office and let Barbara know you will be attending. If you are interested in learning to play Mahjongg, please contact the ALI Office and your name will be placed on the list for the next beginner class.

Listen and Learn Program, open to the public, 10:30 a.m.-noon March 12 in the Faculty/Staff Lounge. “Creating a Cutting Garden” with Maureen Peterson. Having fantasies of colorful bouquets in every room of your house? You can create a low maintenance garden that will provide you with beautiful blooms from spring to first frost. Come learn about some of the most popular annuals and perennials to grow. You will learn about growing requirements and resources. Peterson is a master gardener volunteer with Cornell Cooperative Extension. She has years of experience growing flowers, vegetables and crafting dried flower wreaths. She also has a special interest in organic gardening and horticulture therapy.
Listen and Learn Program, open to the public, 10:30 a.m.-noon March 26 in the Faculty/Staff Lounge. “Just Do It! A Seminar for Financial Survival” with Paul Stracke, CMFC. This presentation will focus on how we must live to continue making the correct decisions for ourselves and our families. Knowing the rules can help you avoid tragic consequences-like needlessly losing dollars to taxes, outliving your retirement income or inadvertently making Uncle Sam your primary beneficiary. Stracke is a teacher, businessman, father, spouse. He has taught at Columbia-Greene Community College for 20 years, focusing on social security, IRA’s, retirement, and annuities.
Just a reminder, ALI is offering a dues incentive for any new member joining the organization. New members would pay $45 for annual dues and their membership would remain active until Aug. 31, 2021 (an extra six months for $5). Contact the Adult Learning Institute Office for information.
