BOYS ROUNDUP: Bluehawks too much for Titans
HUDSON — The Hudson Bluehawks defeated the Taconic Hills Titans, 88-49 in Wednesday’s Patroon Conference boys basketball game.
Hudson notches it first win on the season and their first in the Patroon after a long weekend due to the snow.
The Bluehawks opened the game with a barrage of points, and forced the Titans to call a timeout and regroup after a 17-4 run just 3:25 into the game.
The execution of play calls and game flow was dictated by Hudson throughout, and this early lead didn’t do Taconic Hills any favors. The Titans were consistently inconsistent and taking bad shots lacked patience for open looks.
Dayquan Griffin was nothing short of dominant in the paint for Hudson during this stretch, grabbing multiple rebounds and affording his team second, third, and fourth chance points. This brought the first quarter to a close with the Bluehawks up 30-9 and the Titans gassed.
The second quarter started off pretty physical with multiple players falling on the hardwood, but only a couple of the loud thuds were called fouls.
It seemed like any amount of offense the Titans were able to muster, the Bluehawks answered right back with two or three shots of their own to wear down what was left of the Taconic Hills defense.
By halftime, Hudson was up 46-23 and it was evident the margin could have been wider. The second half was more of the same for both sides, as Hudson continued to rack up points and Taconic Hills kept getting in their own way with sloppy passing and settling for contested shots from bad angles.
The Titans were downright outmatched, outmanned, and outsized in this game, as the Bluehawks continued to hit shots at will. The play tightened up at the end for Taconic Hills, but it was far too late for it to mean anything and it just delayed the inevitable.
The fourth quarter clock ran down to zero and Hudson wrapped up its first win. Noah Hedgepeth led the Bluehawks with 21 points. Griffin added 20.
“I liked our defense at times tonight we just need to clean up some mental mistakes. I give Taconic Hills a ton of credit they played hard the entire game and never quit. We will get back to the lab tomorrow and continue to get better to make sure we are ready for our next opponent Cairo Durham on Friday."
Kyle Delamater was Taconic Hills’ high scorer with 14 points.
Hudson won the junior varsity game, giving Isiah Heard his first victory as the team’s coach.
