Chatham man charged with aggravated DWI

SCHODACK — A Chatham man is facing several charges after driving with a blood alcohol content nearly three times the legal limit, police said.

Nickales J. Ball, 22, was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of marijuana and traffic offenses, according to a statement from state police.

Ball was driving on Interstate 90 in the town of East Greenbush on Saturday at about 9:40 p.m., according to police.

When troopers interviewed Ball, he had glassy eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, according to police. Troopers conducted sobriety tests and arrested Ball, police said.

Ball was taken to the state police station where he took a breath test. He had a blood alcohol content of .23 percent, according to police.

Because Ball was driving with a blood alcohol content more than .18 percent, police said, his DWI charge was elevated to aggravated DWI.

Police searched Ball’s vehicle and found metal knuckles and a small amount of marijuana, according to police.

Ball was processed and released to a sober third party to appear in court at a later date.
