Chatham man charged for filing false report
CHATHAM — A Chatham man has been released on an appearance ticket after allegedly filing a false report to the police.
Joshua K. Vandewal, 39, was charged Feb. 5 with third-degree falsely reporting an incident and filing a false written statement, both class A misdemeanors.
Vandewal reported to police that 50 firearms were stolen from his home on Drowne Road on Nov. 11, police said.
Investigators determined it was a fabrication Feb. 5 and charged Vandewal.
Vandewal’s is scheduled to return to Chatham Court on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m.
State police criminal investigators in Livingston led the investigationa and arrested Vandewal.
