Columbia County Court arraignment and sentences
The following defendants appeared in Columbia County Court on Monday, according to the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office:
n Russell Meyer, 34, of New Lebanon, waived a possible grand jury indictment and was arraigned after he was charged with failure to register/verify as a sex offender. A trial is set for Aug. 19. The Columbia County Sheriff Office arrested Meyer and investigated the incident. The Columbia County Public Defender’s Office represents Russell Meyer.
n Kevin Haberland, 30, of Stuyvesant, waived a possible grand jury indictment and was arraigned on several charges, including three counts of reckless endangerment, a class A misdemeanor; fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony; endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a class A misdemeanor. A trial is scheduled for Oct. 21. The New York State Police arrested Haberland and investigated the incident. Attorney James Kleinbaum represents Haberland.
n Shane Spillenger, 33, of Albany, was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to complete 150 hours of community services after pleading guilty to fifth-degree attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class E felony. The New York State Police investigated arrested Spillenger and investigated the incident. Attorney Christian deFrancqueville represents Spillenger.
n Najahliek Edmunds, 22, of Albany, waived a possible grand jury indictment and was arraigned upon being charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony; menacing a police officer, a class D felony; and third-degree menacing; third-degree assault; and resisting arrest – all class A misdemeanors. A trial is scheduled for Oct. 28. The Hudson Police Department arrested Edmunds and investigated the incident. The Columbia County Public Defender’s Office represents Edmunds.
n George Brehm, 58, of Philmont, was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to complete 210 hours of community service after he was convicted of two counts of driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor. The judge revoked Brehm’s driver’s license and ordered him to pay a $1,000 fine, to install an ignition interlock device and attend a victim impact panel. State police arrested Brehm and investigated the incident. The county Public Defender’s Office represents Brehm.
