Congressman Delgado believes in bold action for our Climate Crisis
To the editor:
I read with pleasure Rep. Antonio Delgado’s view, understanding and decision to engage in “bold action” for addressing our Climate Crisis in The Register-Star (Feb. 8).
Reports about our climate have been growing more urgent since the last quarter of 2018. Some reports have been generated from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Control, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and 4th National Climate Assessment. Locally, The Columbia County Environmental Management Council presented an inspiring statement and globally students in Europe skipped school last week to demand the Climate Crisis be addressed.
Communities are experiencing more intense and frequent “100 year” weather events. We read about many of these events and watch them on TV.
What answers will adults give to children and grandchildren if bold, urgent and determined steps are delayed for seeking solutions to our Climate Crisis.
Many solutions have been presented to both prevent CO2 production and increase CO2 sequestration, as well as develop innovative technology; every effort will help. The Hudson Area Library hosted a fantastic program in October of 2018 generated from Drawdown based upon tools presented by Paul Hawken and his colleagues.
The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 763) was introduced in January. It provides a structure to diminish America’s carbon pollution and bring Climate Change under control, while simultaneously inspiring American technology innovation and ingenuity.
Rep. Delgado proudly voted in favor of “creating a Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.” I urge him to consider partnering with the H.R. 763, as it is structured to develop jobs, as well as Control our Climate.
Our Climate is in Crisis. We must all work to succeed. We must no longer succeed to fail.
