Father, son duo team up to tap out cancer

Hudson’s Mike Alessi and his son, Cody, are teaming up to help fight cancer.

The two have signed up to compete in the Tap Cancer Out tournament in November.

According to the foundation website, tapcancerout.com, “Tap Cancer Out unites the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community and empowers competitors to fight for more than just points and medals — they fight for those who are in the fight of their lives — and we’re helping Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation change the lives of children with cancer and their families by funding critical research grants and family services.”

Tap Cancer Out has been putting on events since 2012, raising more than $900,000 in the process with $560,000 coming last year alone.

The Alessi family is competing in the Jiu-Jitsu tournament to honor the memory of Cody’s grandmother, Grandma Kromer, and his cousin Sal Alessi. His uncle Josh is also a survivor.

Mike Alessi has been competing in mixed martial arts for nearly 15 years. Cody has followed in his dad’s footsteps and younger brother Jasper is also training. The family trains at Atlas Jiu Jitsu in Hudson.
