Fun Questions with Tony Jones
Q: What is your nickname?
--Nickname is Tony. I’m not an Anthony, as many assume, but William Hamilton after my father. Tony is I suppose a diminutive from Hamilton.
Q: What is your favorite meal?
--Favorite meal, in my new plant-based regimen, is mushroom risotto. But I’m learning Indian cooking, which hands down has the best vegetarian dishes, so this is subject to change.
Q: Are you a cat or a dog person?
--Absolutely a dog person, though currently without one. Mostly have had golden retrievers, which are sweet dogs but not necessarily smart.
Q: What music are you listening to these days?
--Listening a lot to the World Music category, just to keep my horizons broad. Standbys include Ali Farka Toure, Toumani Diabate, Angelique Kidjo. Also Krishna Das and also Tibetan chant.
Q: At 13, what did you want to be when you grew up?
--At 13 I wanted to grow up to be editor of the NYTimes.
Q: What is your most embarrassing moment?
--Most embarrassing moment: Frankly I don’t recall any—which may only go to show that I have very low expectations for myself! What I do recall, vividly, are those occasional moments when some instance or detail of reality opens suddenly and unexpectedly into an awe-inspiring perception of just how vast beautiful and interconnected the universe is. Lacking the ability to order up such moments on demand, I compensate by following NASA on Instagram and pondering the beautiful Hubble telescope shots of our cosmos.
