GIRLS BASKETBALL: Balanced scoring lifts Hudson

The Albany-Leadership Panthers got walloped by the Hudson Bluehawks Friday night, 72-20, in Patroon Conference girls basketball action.

Hudson got help from all around the court and had four players in double figures. The game started out slow and the Bluehawks had a hard time maintaining possession long enough for open shots in the first quarter.

The Panthers played tough defense to make this happen in the early stages of this game, but that did not last long. After taking a 13-12 lead into the 2nd period, Albany-Leadership started getting sloppy and not playing defense in the backcourt as tough as the previous quarter.

Jamira Galloway got into foul trouble early for the Panthers with three in the first quarter alone.

Hudson hit the reset button in the short break between periods, and elevated their play on defense to an even more intensified level than Albany-Leadership.

The Bluehawks continued to fight for offensive rebounds, steal in bound passes for easy layups, and pressuring the Panthers as soon as they passed the ball in.

Thanks to a 13-0 run, Hudson went into halftime up by 14, 30-16.

Hudson coach Brice Ivery did not like what he saw in the first half, despite mounting offense as it ended.

“We didn’t do much good the first half; we weren’t working hard enough,” Ivery said. “We were just going through the motions and not sprinting back. When they started sprinting to their spots, things started to change.”

With the momentum completely on their side, the Bluehawks took advantage of an absolutely deflated Panthers team, outscoring their opponents 19-2 in the third quarter.

Hudson kept up their maximum effort on defense and built their lead up to 40 points as the fourth period was halfway over. Only a few possession changes later, it grew to a 50-point lead and that is where the Bluehawks kept it.

At the final buzzer, Hudson took home the win before their holiday break, overcoming a slow start and regrouping to hit their stride into the new year.

Deja Beauford and Darriel Johnson led Hudson with 13 points apiece. Aaliyah Jones had 11 and Katie Jepsen 10.

Catskill 53, Greenville 31

CATSKILL — Freshman Janay Brantley scored 29 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out six assists to lead Catskill to a 53-31 victory over Greenville in Friday’s Patroon Conference girls basketball game.

Aizlyn O’Connell contributed nine points and 13 rebounds as the Cats improved to 3-2 in the Patroon.

Emily Duncan and Natalie Krasney each had six points for the Spartans.

Catskill posted quarterly leads of 12-7, 26-14 and 46-14.

CRARYVILLE — Maple Hill jumped out to a 14-0 lead after one quarter and rolled to a 61-15 victory over Taconic Hills in Friday’s Patroon Conference girls basketball game.

The Wildcats (4-0) were up 29-5 at halftime and 50-13 by the end of the third quarter.

Sophia Chevrier paced Maple Hill with 13 points. Paige Bleau had 11 points, Shannon Tacy grabbed 10 rebounds and Lauryn Smith had seven rebounds.

Marleah Perry and Kirsten Shumsky each had five points for the Titans.

COBLESKILL — Cobleskill-Richmondville had three players reach double figures in scoring in Friday’s 46-24 Colonial Council girls basketball victory over Ichabod Crane.

Jessica Meade’s 13 points led the Bulldogs. Emma Osterhoudt had 11 and Sabrina Pressley 10.

Abigail Dolge scored seven points to lead the Riders.

Cobleskill-Richmondville led 12-7 after one quarter, 29-9 at halftime and 42-16 after three quarters.

GERMANTOWN — Ella Wilson’s 20-point effort sparked Millbrook to a 63-28 non-league girls basketball victory over Germantown on Friday

Erin Fox had 14 points and Natalie Fox 12 for the Blazers, who led 15-7, 30-18 and 49-24 at the quarter stops.

Riley Gibbons topped the Clippers with 14 points.
