GIRLS ROUNDUP: Cats top Mustangs
CAIRO — Janay Brantley posted a double-double and Sara Leipman played lockdown defense on Cairo-Durham’s Arianna Meyers to highlight Catskill’s 56-39 Patroon Conference girls basketball victory over the Mustangs on Wednesday.
Brantley finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists as the Cats were victorious in their season opener.
“It was a great team win,” Cats’ coach Chris Quinn said. “We grind out a good win against a solid team and a very good player in Arianna Meyers. Janay played a very good all-around game and Aizlyn O’Connell and Hannah Konsul made nice contributions. Leipman did a heck of a job guarding Meyers.”
Meyers finished with 10 points for the Mustangs before fouling out with five minutes remaining in the game.
O’Connell had 12 points and eight rebounds and Konsul 10 points for the Cats, who broke away from a 14-14 first quarter tie to takes leads of 29-27 and 42-30 at the next two quarter stops.
Catskill plays host to Chatham on Friday and Cairo-Durham entertains Greenville on Monday.

Rensselaer 54, Greenville 31
RENSSELAER — Rensselaer broke up a close game with a big third quarter and went on to defeat Greenville, 54-31, in Wednesday’s Patroon Conference girls basketball game.
Greenville led 10-8 after one quarter of play, but Rensselaer went up 23-16 at halftime, then used a 21-4 run to open up a 44-20 advantage after three quarters.
Mechelle Cnacer led the Rams with 18 points. Jordan Van Wie added nine.
Natlaie Krasney’s nine points topped Greenville.
Greenville hosts Coxsackie-Athens on Friday.

ALBANY — Nine players reached the scoring column as Holy Names defeated Ichabod Crane, 55-26, in Wednesday’s Colonial Council girls basketball game.
Holy Names posted quarterly leads of 18-6, 28-18 and 40-22.
Grace Field led Holy Names wth 11 points. Lauren Ladopoulos had eight.
Madie Graham paced the Riders with eight points. Delany Moore contributed six.
Ichabod Crane (0-1) goes to Mohonasen on Friday at 6 p.m.
