Ichabod Crane pulls away from Corinth in Class B playoffs
VALATIE — Ichabod Crane cleared its first hurdle in the Section II Class B playoffs with a hard-fought 59-50 victory over Corinth in Thursday’s play-in game at Ichabod Crane High School.
“They were tough,” Ichabod Crane coach Adam Vooris said of Corinth. “We knew very little about them, just that they had a couple kids who could score. They were very well-coached and executed their plays.”
In a stacked B bracket, the No. 12 vs. No. 21 matchup was tight all the way to the end. The Riders led 14-13 after one quarter of play and 26-25 at halftime. At the end of three both teams had 39 and were gearing up for the final period.
“Going into the fourth, I was thinking, what a great game we are in right now,” Vooris said.
The Riders defense prevailed, causing a couple turnovers and fastbreak layups. ICC came away with five steals in the quarter led by Ashley Ames who had three of them to go along with 9 points. Madie Graham contributed 7 of her game-high 23 in the final to help the Riders outscore Corinth 20-11 to seal the victory.
Delaney More finished with a double-double, with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Abby Dolge dished out nine assists.
“It was a team effort, we got key plays from everyone tonight,” Vooris said. “In a close game every possession is important.”
Alexa Abbatantuono led Corinth with 24 points. Alex Carey added 13 and Maddie DeLisle had 11.
Ichabod Crane moves on to play at No. 5 Hudson on Saturday at 6 p.m.
