HUDSON — A Greene County couple named their newborn, the first baby born in 2019 in the Twin Counties, after a character in the popular HBO series “Game of Thrones.”

Bronn Daniel Murphy came into the world at 7:47 p.m. on Jan. 2 to Bryana and Ryan Murphy of Earlton. Bronn weighed 7 lb., 11.6 oz.

“My husband really likes that character,” Bryana said. “We had picked out the name when I was pregnant with my daughter so when we found out it was a boy, we knew right away.”

Ser Bronn of the Blackwater, as he is known in the series, is a sellsword, or mercenary, who ends up serving Tyrion Lannister, a dwarf in the royal family played by Peter Dinklage.

The Murphys chose the middle name Daniel to honor Bryana’s stepfather, who died last year, she said.

The Murphys three-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, is enamored with Bronn, Bryana said.

“She’s obsessed,” Bryana said. “When he’s crying, she gets emotional, too. She loves to kiss him. It’s really cute.”

Bronn came as a bit of a surprise, Bryana said. She wasn’t due to give birth until Jan. 9.

“We actually had an appointment that same day,” she said. “I wasn’t even close to being ready even though I was in pain. Then I got home and the pain got really bad. When I went back in, my water broke at registration.”

The Murphys returned home on Jan. 4 with little Bronn.

“Things have been a little rough,” Bryana said. “We’re trying to get into a routine. He doesn’t like being changed. He pees on me every time I change his diaper. He sleeps a lot during the day. I think we have our days and nights mixed up. But other than that he’s doing really good.”
