SCHENECTADY — Bishop Gibbons pulled away from a 37-37 halftime tie to defeat No. 10 Hudson, 82-65, in the opening round of the Section II Class B boys basketball playoffs on Tuesday.

Hudson (13-7) led 20-19 after the first quarter, but a 18-17 scoring edge in the second pulled No. 7 Gibbons even at 37-37 at halftime. The Knights went on to outscore Hudson 23-12 in the third quarter and 22-16 in the fourth to earn the victory.

Nacier Hundley was Bishop Gibbons’ top scorer with 27 points. Rodney Parker added 18, Noah Foster had 15 and Todd Williamson 10.

Dayquan Griffin led Hudson with 23 points. Noah Hedgepeth had 11 and Caleb Romano nine.

HUDSON (65): Anderson 2-0-4, DeJesus 1-0-2, Gordon 1-0-2, Gorman 2-0-5, Griffin 9-5-23, Hedgepeth 4-0-11, Johnson 2-0-5, Maines 2-0-4, Romano 4-0-9. Totals 27-5-65.

No. 4 Mechanicville 66, No. 13 Greenville 63, OT

MECHANICVILLE — State-ranked Mechanicville overcame a four-point deficit with 50 seconds to play and went on to edge No. 13 Greenville, 66-63, in overtime in the opening round of the Section II Class B boys basketball playoffs on Tuesday.

With less than a minute to go, a four-point play by Joe Germain got the Red Raiders to within one. After a Greenville free throw, Mechancville scored before the clock ran out to force overtime.

The No. 4 Red Raiders outscored the Spartans 8-5 in the extra session to escape with the win.

Greenville’s Damien Fiducia finished with 26 points and scored his 1,000th career point. He also held Mechanicville’s high-scoring Joe Germain to just eight points.

Joe Nicosia added 15 points to the Spartans’ cause.

Devin Garland led the Red Raiders with 18 points. Anthony Attala added 14.

Mechanicville led 14-8 after one quarter, but Greenville went up 27-25 at halftime and took a 38- edge into the final stanza.

No. 2 Schalmont 78, No. 15 Coxsackie-Athens 56

SCHENECTADY — Shane O’Dell dropped 45 points to spark No. 2 Schalmont to a 78-56 victory over Coxsackie-Athens in the opening round of the Section II Class B boys basketball layoffs on Tuesday.

Schalmont built quarterleads of 17-13, 36-23 and 61-39.

Trent Randle had 10 points for the Sabres.

Josh Kiefer topped C-A with 20 points. Tim Simmons contributed 12.

COXSACKIE-ATHENS (56): Boehm 3-0-8, Carroll 1-0-2, Hynes 1-1-3, Kiefer 7-5-20, Minnick 0-1-1, Roe 3-2-9, Simmons 5-1-12. Totals 20-10-56.

No. 5 Maple Hill 71, No. 12 Galway 50

CASTLETON — Blake Decker and Rian Jewett combined for 39 points to help No. 5 Maple Hill take down No. 12 Galway, 71-50, in the opening round of the Section II Class C boys basketball playoffs on Tuesday.

Decker had 20 points and Jewett 19 for Maple Hill, which advances to play No. 4 Lake George on Friday at 8 p.m. at Shenendehwa High School.

Dominic Hirschoff had 12 points and Ben Marra 10 for the Wildcats.

Ryan Lovelass led Galway with 17 points. Cartner Scribner chpped in with 13.

GALWAY (50): Bredan 2-2-7, Flint 3-0-9, Lovelass 5-6-17, Pleasants 0-1-1, Carson Scribner 1-1-3, Carter Scribner 5-3-13. Totals 16-13-50.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

CLASS D

No. 5 Hartford 64, No. 4 Germantown 48

FORT EDWARD — Hartford eliminated No. 4 Germantown from the Section II Class D girls basketball playoffs with a 64-48 victory over the Clippers on Tuesday.

The No. 5 Tanagers led 17-8 after one quarter, 34-15 at haftime and 41-31 through three quarters.

Galway’s Gabrielle McFarren led all scorers with 28 points. Karlee Nims had 20.

Jen jutich’s 12 points led Germantown. Megan Dunn and Kaycee Hayes added eight apiece.

HARTFORD (64): Dunda 1-0-2, French 2-0-6, McFarren 7-8-28, A. Monroe 3-0-6, H. Monroe 1-0-2, Nims 9-2-20. Totals 23-10-64.
