COXSACKIE — A major structure fire blazed through a home in the village of Coxsackie Saturday evening.

It is unclear yet if there are any injuries.

A report for the fire came in to the Coxsackie Fire Department at roughly 7 p.m. Saturday evening, according to firefighter and Coxsackie mayor Mark Evans.

“The call came in about 40 minutes ago for a structure fire at 53 Washington Ave.,” Evans said.

He could not provide information on the scene about any possible injuries.

Firefighters fought to bring the blaze under control. It appeared to have begun on the home’s top floor. There is no indication yet as to the cause of the fire.

Numerous fire trucks and ambulances were on the scene, including the Athens Volunteer Fire Department with its ladder truck. The ladder was used to gain access to the building’s top floor, where the fire was focused.

Several surrounding village streets were closed to traffic. Smoke could be seen billowing into the night sky above the village several miles away.
