Modular home rolls off truck in Hillsdale

HILLSDALE — Part of Route 22 in Hillsdale was closed for several hours Tuesday, after a truck transporting a modular home lost it’s load, state police said.

The truck was traveling north, just south of Collins Street, when the modular home rolled off the left side of the truck, ending up in the southbound lane of Route 22, completely blocking the southbound lane and causing damage to the guardrail, state police said.

The area where the accident took place was on a hill with a curve, state police said. No injuries were reported.

“We were very lucky that there was no traffic through the area at the time of the accident,” state police said. The accident occurred just after 11:30 a.m.

A large tow vehicle from Hillsdale Repairs was brought to the scene, but state police determined that a crane was going to be needed to get the load back on the truck.

Once the home is back on the truck, it will need to be secured, and then inspected by state Department of Transportation employees, who were also at the accident scene.

The company moving the modular is Muncy Homes from Muncy, Pennsylvania, state police said.

The home was being trucked to a site in Maine for delivery, according to employees at the scene.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control. Route 22 was reduced to one lane between Collins Street and Collins Street Extension until the crane arrived. At that point the road was closed.
