RAVENA — It was a construction project months in the making, but the new Cumberland Farms store on State Route 9W is now open for business.

The store’s first day open to the public was Friday, Sept. 14. It is considerably larger than the old Cumberland Farms, located just across the street. That facility is now closed.

“The next-generation stores are larger than the company’s legacy stores and sit on larger parcels,” said David Heilbronner, director of brand strategy and advertising at Cumberland Farms.

“We realized we needed a bigger footprint because we extended the product line,” Heilbronner continued. “We needed more parking, and we needed more space for gas pumps.”

For customers visiting the store for the first time on its opening day, the new larger store was welcomed.

“It’s nice. It’s just like the one in Glenmont,” said Ravena resident Virginia Tryon. “Hopefully it will bring more jobs to the community.”

In addition to more space and more gas pumps, the new store also has a wider product selection, including a “Chill Zone,” with sodas, iced teas, and frozen drinks, and an extensive coffee bar with both hot and iced coffees, along with flavored beverages. There are also numerous hot food choices.

“The company’s modernization strategy also includes remodeling older stores and expanding their offerings — and food service is a big part of that,” Heilbronner said. “The industry as a whole has been expanding food service as a way to compete with quick-service restaurants. Beverage offerings will include specialty coffee, espresso, cappuccino, shakes and smoothies — all made to order.”

On Day One, Ravena resident Jesse Ferri made use of the new food service options.

“I had an early dinner here — it was good,” Ferri said. “This is bigger than the one in Glenmont.”

Susan Innes, of Coeymans Hollow, also liked the food options.

“I think it’s very nice. I like the one in Greenville, and I am glad we have one here now, too,” Innes said. “I like the food — it makes a quick and easy dinner, and it’s very nice and clean.”

Mike Guido, also of Coeymans Hollow, said the new store is a big improvement over the building formerly on the site — previously a car dealership where the showroom had burned down in 2007. That building was demolished in March of this year to make way for the new convenience store.

“The old place that used to be here was an eyesore. This is much nicer,” Guido said. “The inside is spacious and you can see how they are getting everything organized.”

Guido is also a volunteer at the fire department in Coeymans Hollow, and said the store could offer some welcome options for firefighters on the job.

“At 2 in the morning, when there is a fire call, I imagine it would be a great place to come,” Guido said.

The new Cumberland Farms store, located at 2466 State Route 9W, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
