New York Bowhunters is seeking youth between 11 and 16 years of age, as well as their parents, to attend two days of free archery training at their annual Bowhunters Youth Camp at the Earlton Fish & Game Club.

The event takes place on Saturday, Aug. 11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It does not involve an overnight stay.

After expert instruction, (one of the instructors is a former collegiate archery coach), kids and adults will get plenty of opportunities to practice archery outdoors. Everything is provided for those new to the sport, but if you prefer, you are invited to bring your own equipment if you have it.

Those new to the sport need to just bring their curiosity for learning archery skills, basic map and compass, rope use, knot tying and bowhunting techniques, including blood trailing and tracking.

Tree stand safety will also be covered and by the time you’re done having fun acquiring skills and practicing shooting, you’ll have earned your New York State Bowhunting Certificate. With that in hand, you can buy a 2018 bowhunting license when they go on sale starting Aug. 1.

Lunch is provided free of charge and Ed Gorch and his fellow New York Bowhunters are “guaranteeing attendees will have a fun-filled weekend as they gain many of the skills they will need to get started in a lifetime of sport.”

During the past 20 years, Ed reports over 1,900 kids have gone through New York Bowhunter’s free Youth Camps held throughout the state. Ed will be signing up kids and their folks for bowhunting camp once again at the free Archery Tent at the Green County Youth Fair. Just one more reason to stop by the free youth fair whose opening is fast approaching.

It starts Thursday and runs right through the weekend.

What’s great about the New York Bowhunters Youth Camp is the lack of time pressure, allowing extensive shooting practice and instruction to really hone your bow shooting skills. You can’t beat the personalized expert instruction and friendships formed at any price.

If you see Ed at the Greene County Youth Fair, you can sign-up for this great opportunity. Or you can contact him at 518-634-7139 or by email at annaed@mhcable.com, or contact Richard Kirschner at 914-330-1419 or at bowrichny@aol.com.
