Police charge wrong-way driver in Canaan
CANAAN — A New England man faces a drunk driving charge after he was spotted going the wrong way on Interstate 90 in Canaan on Sunday, according to state police.
Ronald S. Gamache, 47, of Higganum, Connecticut, was charged with driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction within 10 years, a class E felony; reckless driving, an unclassified misdemeanor; and multiple vehicle and traffic violations, according to state police.
Troopers responded to I-90 in Canaan at around 12:14 a.m. Sunday for a report of a potential wrong-way driver, according to state police.
Troopers located a parked vehicle with Gamache in it facing east in the west lane, according to state police.
Gamache was the only person in the vehicle. He sustained minor injuries, according to state police.
Gamache was found to be intoxicated and he had a prior DWI conviction, according to state police.
Gamache was arraigned in Canaan Town Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $500 bail or $2,000 bond, according to state police.
He was due back in the Canaan Town Court Monday.
