Police: Pursuit ends with arrest of Durham man
CATSKILL — A police pursuit in the town of Catskill ended with a Durham man under arrest, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday stopped a vehicle on Five Mile Woods Road in the town of Catskill, driven by Austin A. Suarez, 24, of Durham, according to the sheriff’s office.
Suarez was pulled over in connection with an incident that occurred that evening, the sheriff’s office said.
After being interviewed by the deputy, Suarez fled the scene in his vehicle, initiating a brief pursuit, according to the sheriff’s office.
While fleeing the officer, Suarez was involved in a rollover accident on Five Mile Woods Road, the sheriff’s office said.
Suarez then fled the scene on foot, into the woods, according to the sheriff’s office.
After deputies posted a picture of Suarez on the sheriff’s office Facebook page, Suarez turned himself in to investigators Monday.
Suarez was charged with resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, unlawfully fleeing from a police officer, (all class A misdemeanors, and seven vehicle and traffic law violations, according to the sheriff’s office.
Suarez was arraigned in Catskill Town Court by Justice Rick Jacobs and released, due to new bail reform laws, according to the sheriff’s office. He is due back in Catskill Town Court at a future date.
