Regarding article on electric vehicle charging stations in Hudson

The municipal parking lot behind Hudson City Hall now has three parking spaces devoted to charging electric vehicles in addition to 120 spaces devoted to old-fashioned combustion engine vehicles. What the lot does not have is a simple, cheap and helpful thing called a bicycle rack. When government priority is cars, cars, cars and there is no effort to promote bicycle riding, we are headed in the wrong direction. Electric vehicles may be a great innovation but they are very expensive and the technology has yet to prove itself in the long run. On the other hand, time-tested, sustainable and effective modes of local transportation like walking, public transportation and bicycling should be the priority, or at least part of the mix. Making Hudson more bike-friendly by introducing bicycling infrastructure will have a far greater impact on the planet, our local air quality and help more average, unwealthy people get around locally than electric vehicles ever will. Here in the year 2019 it is discouraging to see that City Hall still has its priorities screwed up: 123 spaces for cars to be parked safely and not one sturdy piece of metal designated for a bicycle. Progressive, smart municipalities don’t allow this anymore.

Case in point: Where does the Mayor’s aide lock his bike when he rides it to work? To a parking meter on the sidewalk in front of City Hall.
