Route 9W crash sends one to hospital
SELKIRK — There were three significant motor vehicle accidents in Selkirk over the weekend.
Bethlehem Police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Thursday, Sept. 20, at roughly 11:08 a.m., according to a statement from police.
The accident occurred on State Route 9W and Tremay Lane in Selkirk.
A 2018 Ford Edge, driven by Edgar A. Deutsch, 77, of Glenmont, was traveling southbound on Route 9W “when it sideswiped a northbound 2016 Chevrolet pick-up truck that was towing a trailer with construction equipment,” according to the police statement.
The truck was driven by Frances D. Maxwell, 33, of Wynantskill.
Neither vehicle had any passengers other than the drivers. The crash left debris scattered up and down the roadway.
The Selkirk Fire Department was called to the scene of the crash and extricated Deutsch from his vehicle. He was transported to Albany Medical Center by Delmar-Bethlehem EMS and Albany County Paramedics.
Deutsch had multiple injuries and at press time was in serious but stable condition.
Maxwell was not injured.
Route 9W was closed to traffic until 2:30 p.m. as Bethlehem Police investigated the accident. Law enforcement conducted crash reconstruction on the scene and interviewed witnesses.
“At this point, excessive speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash,” according to the police statement.
The accident remains under investigation and police ask that any witnesses to the crash contact them at 518-439-9973.
The crash was one of several in the area last week. The following day, Friday, Sept. 21, there was another accident, also on Route 9W, in the vicinity of the Stewart’s Shop in Selkirk.
That crash involved three vehicles. One of the drivers was transported to the hospital by Delmar-Bethlehem EMS with minor injuries, and the occupants of the other vehicles were not hurt.
Traffic on the northbound side of Route 9W was rerouted onto Cottage Lane while the crash was handled by authorities.
Then the following morning, at around 12:15 a.m., there was another accident in the area of Maple Avenue and Cottage Lane in Selkirk. A vehicle had struck a pole and flipped onto its side and into a ditch. No further details were available at press time.
