Tivoli Artists Gallery presents printmaking show with added twist of ceramics
“Ink and Paper and Ceramics” to feature works of married couple Melissa and Ted Braggins
TIVOLI – Tivoli Artists Gallery, the Hudson Valley collective of artists, artisans and photographers, announces the final installment of its fall line-up, a showcase of exhibits that present personal discoveries and reflections. Up next, Melissa Katzman Braggins + Ted Braggins: Ink and Paper and Ceramics (Oct. 25 – Nov. 17) features printmaking processes using different and unique media, combining methods such as lithography, relief, stenciling and monotype in conjunction with ceramics, collage and paper pulp. This organic approach to natural imagery is presented by the Braggins, long time members of TAG.
Ink and Paper and Ceramics showcases traditional printmaking methods, and includes ceramic pieces which may be stenciled or silkscreened before firing in the kiln. The works reflect personal expression in the portrayal of landscapes, florals and figures. Archival works will also be on display, to exemplify progression of the Braggins’ explorations through the years, and provide a link between the past and present.
A connection to scenery, landscapes and the beauty the world often drive the pair to create. “I try to capture a fleeting moment of time. Nature plays an important role, together with the intricate emotions and relationships between people” states Melissa Braggins. “I would like my work to provide a chance to look closely at what surrounds us” she adds. According to Ted Braggins, “I find working in printmaking provides a level of control that allows for the use of strong color, layering and transparency. Works are flat while having depth and richness and some pieces are ghost impressions that emerge and evolve. It brings static to life.” The couple’s work can be seen extensively throughout the Hudson Valley at galleries and public locales, along with numerous private collections and in premier local publications. They live in Rhinebeck and all work is hand produced through their graphic arts workshop, Pondside Press (ponsidepress.com).
