Trump signs proclamation for flag to be flown at half-staff to honor McCain after criticism that White House raised flag too soon
WASHINGTON - After flying at half-staff for barely a day in tribute to Sen. John McCain , R-Ariz., U.S. flags at the White House and many other federal properties were raised Monday morning, sparking criticism that President Donald Trump was not properly honoring the senator.
He reversed that decision Monday afternoon.
"Despite our differences on policy and politics, I respect Senator John McCain's service to our country and, in his honor, have signed a proclamation to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff until the day of his interment," Trump said in a statement.
