Williams drops 22 in Panthers’ victory
CHATHAM — The Chatham Panthers won their Patroon Conference boys basketball home game against the Taconic Hills Titans Tuesday night, 68-33.
Chatham’s Jayshawn Williams led all players with 22 points over three quarters; Williams did not score in the fourth. Another tough loss for Taconic Hills, who failed to get their offense going yet again.
The first few minutes of the game went slowly with a rather large number of early fouls by both sides. The Titans were passing a little too aggressively in the quarter, and passed up a few too many opportunities for points.
After the Titans hit a three pointer to cut the lead to three, the Panthers answered with two straight buckets to close out the period and led 16-9.
Both defenses showed toughness in the second, with Chatham scoring first at the 5:30 mark. This broke the ice for the Panthers, and they were leading by 20 before the Titans could blink.
Taconic Hills dug themselves a significant hole before halftime, after only putting up four points in quarter. The Panthers took a 31-13 lead into the locker room.
The second half started and Chatham did not hold back the intensity, and they continued to outmuscle Taconic Hills on the court. The Panthers hit shots on command and if not, they consistently grabbed offensive rebounds to extend possessions and take time off of the clock. As the game neared its end, it became apparent that a Titans comeback was not on the schedule. By the end of the fourth the Panthers had won big, by 35.
