LOCAL ROUNDUP: Griffin scores 28 as ’Hawks sink Rams

RENSSELAER — Dayquan Griffin scored 28 points in Hudson’s 71-60 Patroon Conference boys basketball victory over Rensselaer.

The Bluehawks (11-3, 11-6) led 18-14 after one quarter, but the Rams went ahead 30-29 by halftime. Hudson went on to outscore Rensselaer 21-15 in both the third and fourth quarters, though, to earn the victory.

Noah Hedgepeth followed Griffin in scoring for Hudson with 13 points.

Ramell Johnson led all scorers with 30 points for Rensselaer. Smai Lockhart and Amani Nixon each had 13.

Hudson plays host to Greenville on Monday. Junior varsity action tips at 10:30 a.m., with the varsity game to follow.

CRARYVILLE — Cairo-Durham had five players score 10 points or better in Thursday’s 61-31 Patroon Conference girls basketball victory over Taconic Hills.

Imani Wolcott led the Mustangs balanced attack with 12 points. Taylor Colarusso, Anna James, McKayla Mudge an Arianna Myers all had 10,

Marleah Perry and Kirsten Shumsky had nine points apiece for Taconic Hills.

GLENS FALLS — Four local wrestlers have been designated No. 1 seeds in their respective weight classs for today’s Section II Division II State Qualifying Tournament at Cool Insuring Arena.

Jair Gomez (99) of Ichabod crane, Logan Campbell (113) of Coxsackie-Athens, Caleb Svingala (126) of Maple Hill and Aidan Cullen (132) of Greenville are all seeded first in the tournament, which begins today at 9:45 a.m.

Ichabod Crane’s Omar Martinez is seed fourth at 106 pounds and his teammate Jerald Rhoades is seeded fourth at 138. Catskill’s Jesse Davies is the No. 4 seed at 152 and Coxsackie-Athens’ Colby Lord is the No. 3 seed at 182.

Each weight-class winner, and a number of at-large qualifiers, advance to the state tournament on Feb. 22-23 at the Times Union Center in Albany.
