Vito J. Venezia, Sr., loving father, and grandfather and friend, age 95 years, of Cairo, passed away on February 13, 2020, at Albany Medical Center, Albany, N.Y.

He was born on January 5, 1925 in Hoboken, N.J. and is the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Fortini) Venezia.

Besides his parents, Vito is predeceased by his loving wife Emily Venezia who passed away on July 25, 1987, his sisters Nancy Poggiogalle, Lily Grillo, Collie Gerundo, his brothers Frank and Joseph Venezia, Jr. During Vito’s lifetime, he proudly served his country during WWII in The U.S. Navy serving during The European Campaign from 1942 - 1945, joining at the young age of 17, and he was employed for many years for C.D.T. A. Bus Company as a foreman. He belonged to the following organizations The V.F.W. #770 in Catskill, N.Y., The Catskill Elks # 1341, The American Legion Post # 983 Cairo, and also the AMVETS Post #98 in Florida. He loved spending time with his family, also traveling and birds.

Survivors include his sons Vito Venezia, Jr., and Joseph O’Shea, daughters JoAnn Pound and her husband Bernie, Donna Andersen and her husband Bud, Bunny Agostinoni and her husband Ron, Emily Gallo and her husband Conrad, Bernadette Venezia and Margie Venezia. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, his sister Nina Savino, and his beloved companion Louise Blowers. He also had many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross Street, Cairo, N.Y. on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. The Catskill Elks # 1341 will conduct services at the funeral home at 6:30 P.M. The N.Y.S. Military Forces Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the funeral home at 6:45 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home, with Pastor Victor Nelson of The Resurrection Lutheran Church, Cairo, N.Y. officiating. Interment will take place in the family plot of The Cairo Cemetery, Cairo, N.Y. in July of 2020. Contributions in his memory may be made to The Samuel S.
